Hi All,
Tomorrow, Americans will go to the polls. I think it is pretty safe to say that this will be the most important mid-term election in my lifetime so far. The choices are pretty clear, and Americans are pretty ticked off. They have a right to be. Unemployment is at 10%, small businesses are not hiring, expanding, or buying new equipment, because come January they expect the largest tax hike in the nation's history to kick in, not to mention expecting to raise the cost of insuring their employees exponentially to to pay for a massive takeover of healthcare that 70% of Americans do not want.
I think that a lot of people believe that our freedoms are slowly being eroded away by a government that continues to become larger and larger. A lot of people for the first time do not believe that they will be leaving a country for their children that will be better than the one that was handed down to them.
Americans are an independent breed by nature. We like our choices to be just that, OUR choices. They do not want to be told how much mayo to put on a sandwich, and whether or not it has to be fat-free, or what kind of light bulbs to put in their house. We just want to be left alone to do what Americans have always been best at-creating prosperity.
One of my father's favorite sayings was, "remember that when you vote." Don't worry...we will.

Hey Gang,
This past Wednesday night, I watched Sean Hannity interview a woman named Kristi Noem. She is running for the at-large congressional district in South Dakota. She is intelligent, articulate, and has a clear vision about how she would like to serve the people of South Dakota in Washington.
Kristi Noem is the latest in what has become a VERY long list of fantastic Republican women candidates. Michelle Bachmann, Linda McMahon, Niki Haley, Christine O'Donnell, Meg Whitmann, and Carly Fiorina are not only wives, mothers, and successful career women, they all have one thing in common, and that is that they are scaring the whatsis out of the left..
But wait a minute. Wasn't this what Gloria Steinem and the rest of the NOW gals told all of the women of my generation that we should be? We should WANT and EXPECT to be superwomen. We should WANT to, as that old perfume ad said, "bring home the bacon and fry it up in the pan". Does this tempting offer of female exceptionalism only extend to women with a "D" after their name? Is it only those women who have the "correct" view on things like healthcare, the environment, immigration, etc., those pillars of the feminist movement who get to fulfill the dream of "having it all"? All these GOP women have achieved all this and more, but they are labeled as "mean", (classy, very classy Maureen), vapid, or the best one yet, "whore".
It is truly inspiring to see these women take on the establishment, and define, I think, what feminism really is. I am so proud! You go Girls!!

Hey Everyone,
I just finished reading the latest "the mean girls are picking on me!" column from everyone's "favorite?" liberal Maureen Dowd. Wow. What a contrast to the list of endorsed candidates from Smart Girl Politics, the website I was on before I decided to venture into the elitist world of New York Times columnists.
I know I'm just a hick from North St. Louis(MO) county. I was at WalMart just the other day...oh no....one of THOSE people. On Smart Girl, I read about six or seven Congressional candidates who are wives, mothers, small business owners, a few of them all of those at once. Strong independent women who have acheived their accomplishments on their own. Women who advocate smaller government, a whole lot more fiscal responsibility, and an economy that is once again strong and thriving.
Then there was, as her friends call her, MoDo, complaining that those meanies like Sharon Angle, Christine O'Donnell, and don't forget Sarah Palin, just want to snatch Grandma's Social Security check out of her hand, and make sure no one ever sees a doctor ever again.
There's a part of me that sort of feels sorry for ol' Maureen. I mean, all of those "nice" candidates that she would endorse, like Harry Reid, the Democrat in charge of Military morale ("The war is lost."), the ones who are running against those mean Republican women, are all behind in the polls, Nov. 2 is JUST not going to be a good hair day for poor Maureen.

Hey Gang,
I had a thought today that the word "cauldron" implies a mixture, so I thought I would slip in a little mid-week thought on what I guess is the big story today, the rescue of the Chilean miners. I'm sure that we have all watched a portion of this truly historic rescue. Mining is such a dangerous job and I think the families of these brave men are just as much heroes as they are.
I watched the last miner Luis Alberto Urzua be pulled to safety this evening. He was one of the older men trapped in the mine and was the shift leader. Very shortly after the mine collapse, he took charge, as his title would imply, and organized the men into three groups and assigned them day and evening tasks, rationed out their food and water until more could be sent, and kept the morale of his men in as good a shape as he could. What is even more amazing is the fact that he had only worked at the mine for about two months. Last, but not least, he made sure that all of his men were pulled to safety before him.
People like to try to convince us that character does not matter anymore, but because of the character of Mr. Urzua , the miners on his shift owe this man their lives.
I remember, right after 9/11 hearing some European leader say that "We are all Americans". Today, maybe we are all Chileans. Welcome home guys.

Hey Everyone,
Well, they say all good things must come to an end, and vacation is one of them. It's back to work for me tomorrow with the rest of the world. Oh well, if everybody else is schlepping their butts out of bed while it is still dark out I guess I can too!
I know by now it is old news politically, but I wanted to say a few words about Christine O'Donnell. The whole Witchcraft thing kind of opened the door for me.
As I have stated before, Wicca and Witchcraft are nothing that people think they are. From what I have read and heard about the whole "scandal", this was something that occurred while she was in high school, and it sounds like it was just a case of some of her girlfriends watching the movie "The Craft" one too many times, and having a Goth-leaning boyfriend who like to wear black nail polish. C'mon, how many of us dated guys in high school that, looking back on it now were questionable at best? Seriously, I think that if she looses the Senatorial race in Delaware, it will be because she simply has not run an effective campaign and failed to get her message out to the people. Also, let's remember that Delaware is a very blue state, so it is kind of an uphill battle to start out with for her. The last poll I caught was on Friday the 8th, and she was down by 17 points.
FYI-This past Friday evening, Greta Van Susteren did a fantastic interview with Christine O'Donnell. She was very well spoken, gave great answers, and answered every question Greta asked her dead on, no dodging or spin. I can see why the Libs are afraid of her, she reminds me of Sarah Palin! Part 1 of that interview is on the Fox News Channel website.

Hi All,
Yesterday, I started things off by saying that I believe that Wicca and Conservatism have share a lot of the same values. Today, I would like to explain what I mean.
There are four basic tenets of Wicca. -
#1 Harm None. This means exactly what it says. Harm none, not even yourself.
#2 Be responsible for your actions. Conservatives energetically encourage responsibility for one's own actions. Be proud when they are the right actions, and man up when you have screwed up.
#3 What you send out into the Universe you get back times three. I think that this is very similar to the "Golden Rule", which says to treat others the way you would like to be treated. If you send lots of positives, be they material or spiritual out into the world, you will get those positives back times 3. Same goes with any negativity you send out there as well.
#4 Last but not least, Respect Nature. I think Republicans and Conservatives in particular get a bad rap when it comes to all things environmental. I don't think there is anyone who is FOR dirty air and dirty water! I think that we all want to be good stewards of the Earth. I have always thought that Native Americans got it right. They believed that you took from the Earth what they needed, gave thanks for what they took, and then replaced what they took.
So, I don't see many contradictions between Conservatism and Wicca. Next time, let's touch on Christine O'Donnell and "dabbling in Witchcraft".

Welcome Everyone!
My name is Becky, and this is my first blogging adventure. I am a Wiccan, have been since 1999. I am also pretty Conservative. There are a few of us out there, but we are out here none the less! I hope that I can bring a unique perspective to other Conservatives and just other people in general. Wicca and Witchcraft is nothing that people think it is, and it is my hope that I can make a whole lot of people see that. I am just like everybody else, painfully normal, I just follow a different spiritual path. I will be getting into more the reasons that Paganism and Conservatism share a lot of the same values. I hope not just my fellow Conservatives, but everyone will enjoy reading what I have to say, and make The Conservative Cauldron a regular stop on the web.
